| Education Program Hervey Bay Regional Gallery offers a range of educational services to schools, teachers, students and the general public. These include gallery visits and outreach programs including the travelling schools kit, Art in a Box, and Skipper's Art Sleuth Program linking artists with schools. Initiatives for 2012 include the Mudskippers Club for children aged nine to 14 years, the Little Skippers for children aged five to eight years and the Pipis activity morning for three to five-year-olds. Another exciting initiative is the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery Senior Student Art Bursary. Senior Student Art Bursary Hervey Bay Friends of the Gallery in conjunction with generous gallery sponsor Art Pac Pacific Creative Media has initiated an annual Senior Student Art Bursary. Download the application form and submit it to Hervey Bay Regional Gallery via post or email by 4pm, Monday, 28 May. The successful applicant will be notified by Friday, 1 June. HBRG believes it is important to propagate an interest in and appreciation of the arts across the entire community and especially to encourage senior students to consider the potential of the arts industry as a viable and satisfying career. Gallery Visits Hervey Bay Regional Gallery actively encourages visits by education groups of all levels to exhibitions. The visits can include exhibition-related talks and tours as well as hands-on activities. Activities can be tailored to suit the curriculum needs of class/year groups. As the major public gallery for the Fraser Coast region, Hervey Bay Regional Gallery is a valuable resource for the community and staff members aim to maximise its use for the benefit of educational institutions as well as other groups on the Fraser Coast. Visits to the gallery by schools also provide a unique opportunity for some children who, for family reasons, would otherwise never experience cultural activities or venues such as art galleries and museums. The Mudskippers Club This program aims to provide quality gallery experiences for children at the middle and upper primary and lower secondary levels. The focus will be on providing children with positive and interesting experiences interacting with visual art exhibitions, increasing their knowledge of artists, artworks and media, and providing them with a framework on which to discuss and critique art. Children will have access to gallery exhibitions through short tours and talks, as well as hands-on explorations of related themes and media through artist-led art-making activities. The Mudskippers Club will be held on one Saturday per month. The Little Skippers art adventure for 5 to 8 year olds will be held from 10am to 12pm, and the Mudskippers (9 to 14 years) will be from 1pm to 3pm. An annual membership fee of $10 applies for each child, with an additional $10 non-refundable booking fee payable for each workshop. There is no limit to the number of workshops each child can attend, dependent on bookings, which are essential. To join, download the membership form, and return the completed form with payment to the gallery reception. Check out our Events page to see which workshops are coming up and the Mudskipper Scribblings page to see the fun they've already had. Pipis ClubThe Pipis Club provides quality gallery experiences for children in the early years. The program will be developmentally appropriate for children aged 3 to 5 years and provide little ones with an introduction to the visual arts and art-making with talks and fun hands-on activities that mums, dads and carers can join in.
