Hervey Bay Regional Gallery

School and Group visits

Have you considered a class excursion to Hervey Bay Regional Gallery? The gallery is operated by the Fraser Coast Regional Council to provide residents and visitors with opportunities to view and experience a diverse range of visual arts.

As the major public gallery for the Fraser Coast region, Hervey Bay Regional is a valuable resource for the community and staff members aim to maximise its use for the benefit of education facilities as well as other groups in the region. Visits to the gallery by schools also provide a unique opportunity for some children who, for family reasons, would otherwise never experience cultural activities or venues such as art galleries and museums.

The changing program includes amazing displays by artists from across Australia, so our residents have the same access to exhibitions as people in the capital cities. School students can also enjoy the creations of artists from within our region.

Gallery visits invariably provide rich opportunities for students to engage in analytical and critical discussions as well as opening up their eyes to the diverse forms of visual expression. An exploration of the gallery reveals that there are many ways to view the world and the people in it, and that perspectives vary widely on issues affecting our community, our country and our world. Gallery visits can provide meaningful, real-world opportunities for learning and the foundation for activities across many curriculum areas, not just the arts.

Each year, we hope to present a greater range of services to schools. Teachers are welcome to speak to staff about designing a particular educational activity to use in conjunction with their class visit.  Alternatively, teachers planning a visit can forward details of their visual arts curriculum and gallery staff can suggest the most appropriate exhibition for students to view, in order to tie in more specifically to their class work.

Visits can include exhibition-related talks and tours as well as hands-on activities. Best of all, entry to Hervey Bay Regional Gallery is free, as are all tours and activities.

Tours/group visits

Visits by tours and larger groups are welcomed at Hervey Bay Regional Gallery. Staff can arrange exhibition talks tailored to your group and even morning/afternoon teas for pre-booked visits if required. Clean and well-serviced public toilets, including a toilet with access for people with disabilities, are available. A café is located within the adjacent University of Southern Queensland Fraser Coast Campus facility and is open weekdays. To find out more or to make a booking, please contact the gallery on 4197 4210 or email regionalgallery@frasercoast.qld.gov.au.
